Aromatherapy
can be used to relieve pain, soothe skin, lift tension and fatigue and energise the entire body.
Approximately 150 essential oils are used in Aromatherapy. Most of them have some antiseptic properties; some are antiviral, anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, antidepressant and expectorant. Other properties of the essential oils which are taken advantage of in aromatherapy are their stimulation, relaxation, digestion improvement, and diuretic properties. To get the maximum benefit from essential oils, it should be made from natural, pure raw materials.
Synthetically made oils do not work.
As essential oils are highly concentrated and evaporate easily, each drop is extremely strong and must be used with care and the aromatherapy guidelines and rules followed. Never use them undiluted - unless you have been fully trained in Aromatherapy.
The benefits of aromatherapy can be obtained in a number of ways:
By direct application of the oils to the skin. Massage with aromatherapy oils allows the substances to be readily absorbed into the skin. To make an aromatherapy massage oil, simply add a few drops of an essential oil to a small amount of an unscented carrier oil, such as sweet almond oil or safflower oil.
By inhaling the scents. add a few drops of aromatherapy oils to a basin of steaming water - usually eucalyptus or pine oil.
By adding the oils to a bath. soak in a relaxing bath after adding between 8 and 15 aromatherapy essential oils. Avoid using soap in an aromatherapy bath.
